13 Aug 2026 Day #13 in Madagascar Day #12 on the Africa Mercy Ships.
Today was my last day in the “cleft” room. We took care of two young girls with cleft lips. We had 2 surgeons from Australia, one from Madagascar and one from the US, nurses from Italy, South Korea and Australia, myself and an anesthetic nurse from Australia. Today the Aussies won. “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi, Oi, Oi!” As they say in Australia.
I took my large suitcase to be shuttled to Tana up this afternoon. So far it has made it down the gangway waiting to be picked up. I now have just enough to get me through until I get back to Tana on Saturday evening. Amazingly, due to lack of chomps (meat sticks) that I brought to eat, my suitcase is much lighter.
I said goodbye to our wonderful cafe worker Ebai who is returning to Cameroon. After work I headed into town with Jessica to do some last minute shopping. She helped “negotiate” good prices for my purchases.

Tomorrow we have 3 cases in the plastic surgery room. Then we are having a dinner out with the OR crew, many of us who are finishing our service tomorrow.
It’s hard to believe two weeks ago I was doing my final prep for the trip here and now getting ready to do it all in reverse.
